Community Development Works, a program of The Rapides Foundation, is offering free skill-building training for Cenla residents and nonprofits. Workshops run from March through early May.  All workshops and webinars are offered free of charge. Workshops take place at The Rapides Foundation Building, 1101 Fourth St., Alexandria. Webinars can be accessed from most devices using the GoToWebinar app.

The Orchard Foundation is holding information sessions for residents to learn more about the Central Louisiana Instructional Partnership, a paid teacher residency program that develops middle school math and science teachers for high-needs schools in Central Louisiana.  Anyone interested in learning more about the program is invited to attend an information session on March 2. Sessions will be from 6-7 p.m. on the Mezzanine Floor of The Rapides Foundation Building, 1101 Fourth Street, Alexandria.

The Avoyelles Adult Education Center in Marksville reminds those who are interested in earning their high school equivalency diploma about classes currently being held at the Simmesport Town Hall on Wednesday nights 6:00pm-9:00pm.  For more information on registration, eligibility requirements, and/or the high school equivalency exam, contact our office in Marksville at 318-253-5511.

 

Every WEDNESDAY in April,  you can attend TAI CHI CHIH CLASS, 9:30-10:30a in the YOGA RX ROOM in the CABRINI MEDIPLEX across the street from CABRINI HOSPITAL, 3347 Masonic Drive.  This is a 5 week Tai Chi Chih class consisting of 19 Movements and one pose.  By the end of the 5 week session, students will know how to practice Tai Chi Chih on their own.  Please wear comfortable clothes.  Classes are FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.  To register and for more information, please contact Becky Watkins, 318-448-6938. 

 

Avoyelles Parish is home to a large variety of things to see and do. Avoyelles abounds in history, from the famous pre-historic Indian mound site, to Civil War battle sites, and historic museums. MONDAY, APRIL 27TH, THE ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP, will meet on Monday April the 27th from 11- 1 in the SERENITY ROOM in the CABRINI MEDIPLEX across the street from the hospital on Masonic Dr.   This group is designed for Caregivers and/or family members of those diagnosed with Alzheimer/Dementia.  The group offers educational handouts, sharing time, and LUNCH IS PROVIDED BY CHRISTUS ST. FRANCES CABRINI HOSPITAL. THE ALZHEIMER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the fourth Monday of each month.
